Zombies In The News Again!
By Jason Davis for Spook Show Entertainment / Dark Arts Magazine
There have been a number of news stories lately as to zombies. What has started as a underground cult phenomenon with Zombie walks, dances and special events, has now grown into a way to making it common on mainstream news outlets. Now the latest has been to use Zombies in protests. In the past couple of weeks there have been two protests using Zombies for their cause, the latest being used by television network AMC.
The Zombie protest came in the wake of what is an ongoing battle between the cable provider Dish Network and the television network, AMC. The details of the disagreement have not fully been released, but the two parties have yet to come to an agreement which has led to AMC being dropped from the channel lineup of Dish Networks service.
AMC retaliated to this by using their most popular show on their network, “Breaking Bad” and offering it free for viewers to watch through iTunes. Dish Networks response was to offer those of its customers who continued to want AMC a free Roku.
And then came the Zombies. AMC launched their attack on the unsuspecting streets of New York City as zombies terrorized the way along the streets. Shots of the zombies can be seen eating hotdogs, approaching people and stalking them, and in the end, walking away dragging a dead satellite dish?
So why the Zombies? Another of AMC’s popular shows, “The Walking Dead” centers on the post apocalyptic struggle of a band of survivors after Zombies have spread across of the United States. AMC is now using their zombies to protest and bring attention to their new campaign.
What is their new campaign? They don’t want you on Dish Network. AMC has set up a website at www.putzombiesback.com. They have some information on there as to why they believe AMC was dropped as well as offer information on how to switch to another cable provider, one that offers AMC.
“The Walking Dead” is set to premiere back on AMC, October 14th.
